Annoying Research Papers

I had to write a research paper in the 2nd semester of my senior year and it sucked. It was a 7 ½ page paper and it took forever to do. We went step by step and had deadlines for each step. To choose a topic, she passed a paper around the class with all the possible topics, and we had to choose. Nobody could have the same topic. My topic for the paper ended up being on Islam. We then had to come up with a thesis statement and she had to approve it before we could move on. After that we had to get at least 5 books, we could only use like one internet site and we had to prove that it was a reliable source. From the research we had to do over a100 index cards with 2 or 3 sentences of info from our sources that we could use for the paper. The index cards had to be a certain format with page numbers, book title, author, etc. They also had to be in order by author. It was a pain in the neck. When we wrote the paper, we had to include in text citations as well as a works cited page. Everything had to be in MLA format and nothing in the paper could be in first person or it would be an automatic 10 point reduction. Also, since it’s such a long paper, it’s so hard to organize and keep it flowing without repeating the same thing in 3 different ways. Everything took forever and because of this experience, I HATE research papers. I’m really not looking forward to the next one, hopefully it isn’t as bad.
