Men, Women, and the Media

Throughout the media, there are many archetypes that epitomize the perfect man or woman. Thus, I think that both are objectified in that there is a "norm" or "ideal" man or woman. That being said, I think that women have the short end of the straw. The ideal woman is often a thin, tan goddess, who has everything in the world going for her. She often uses her sexuality to manipulate and coerce men. This is a false stereotype because if you look around, this ideal that is being pushed throughout the media is one that is in the minority...by far. As for men, the ideal man isn't necessarily perfectly toned, evenly tanned and buff. Look at TV shows. Pretty much any sitcom will be a good judge. The extremely attractive wife will use her seductive tendencies to get her way at times, while the man may not be necessarily attractive...or even trim or fit at that. But even though the media portrays this, in things such as music and movies, and TV shows, women are objectified. Not men. Many times women are encouraged to be used for pleasure, etc. This encourages it I think.
