Style

Everyone has their own style. It comes from how they were raised and taught in school combined with what they read, hear, and experience. Like most people, I don’t really think about my style when I write. I just try to follow the topic and use examples or facts to get my points across. The way I write may change from paper to paper, depending on the topic. In high school, I guess my style was the traditional 5-paragraph essay with an intro, the 3 points to back up my argument, and a conclusion where I restated everything. I do think that my style changes a bit for different audiences. If I’m writing a school paper I will focus more on using big words, clever sentences, and make sure that all my grammar is correct. If I’m just sending an email or message to a friend, I will most probably use abbreviations, and not worry to much about capitalization or grammar. I would probably also use certain words that I wouldn’t use in a school or professional paper. I’m sure that most people can pretty much say that they write differently when they don’t have as much pressure or rules to follow. This has to do with the pressure that schools impose on students to write a certain way and follow a specific standard.
