Clearly I missed this date, but I am posting my response anyways...

After reading "Selling Out," and considering your knowledge of the media, do you think males are commoditized or objectified in the same ways as women? Give examples.

I think Men and women are definitely treated differently in the media. A lot of women attack males for their parts in creating the "ideal woman" portrayed often in the media but it has been pointed out that society's perfect female form is far more often seen in women's magazines/ads than in those geared towards men. Women often dig their own graves in perpetuating that standard in the media. That said, men are allowed are definitely allowed more leeway in the media and society in my opinion. Just look at the world of movie stars. I can name many, many acclaimed male actors who maybe aren't the ideal body type or facial structure. Danny DeVito, Will Ferrel, Seth Rogan, Phillip Seymour Hoffman... the list goes on. I am hard pressed to think of many famous actresses who aren't of a very healthy body type and universally attractive facial features.
I find that most of my male friends whole-heartedly agree with me in my observation that this happens in everyday life as well. I have posed that I believe women tend to be a lot more forgiving of a male's physical flaws than many men tend to be towards the flaws in women.
This is obviously not always the case, and I do believe that women put far more pressure on each other and themselves to attain the perfect form than men do.
Men are objectified as well to be sure, I can't count the amount of times I have heard female friends of mine dismiss a man entirely before even speaking to them based on their appearance.
